What does Ezekiel 14:18 mean?
God is speaking here about a time of severe judgment when even the most righteous people would not be able to save their loved ones. Ezekiel has been describing a famine so devastating that even Noah, Daniel, and Job, the most faithful and interceding men who ever lived, could only rescue themselves. The point isn't that they wouldn't want to help their families, but that the judgment is so absolute and personal that no one's righteousness can shield another person from it. This is a sobering reminder that ultimately, each of us must answer to God for ourselves, and there are limits to how far anyone else's faith can carry us.
