Exodus 9:1
“Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, and tell him, ‘This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: “Let my people go, that they may serve me.”
What does Exodus 9:1 mean?
God is calling Moses back to Pharaoh with a direct command: release the Hebrew people so they can worship freely. This message comes after a series of plagues have already struck Egypt, yet Pharaoh has repeatedly refused to listen. The phrase "God of the Hebrews" reminds Pharaoh that these enslaved people belong to a God with real power, not just to Egypt's ruler. At its heart, God's demand isn't ultimately about freedom from hard labor, though that matters, but about freedom to worship, to belong fully to God rather than being owned by human power.
