What does Exodus 7:9 mean?

God is preparing Moses for a difficult conversation with one of the most powerful people on earth. Pharaoh will demand proof that God has sent Moses, and God is giving Moses a specific sign to perform, one so dramatic it cannot be dismissed as coincidence or sleight of hand. What's worth noticing is that God doesn't leave Moses to figure this out on his own or to improvise, he gives clear instruction ahead of time, which is deeply comforting when you're about to face someone who holds your life in their hands. This moment shows us that God often works through preparation and clarity before we step into frightening situations, and he sometimes uses us as partners in his work (here, through Aaron's participation) rather than asking us to bear everything alone.
