Exodus 6:21
“The sons of Izhar: Korah, and Nepheg, and Zichri.”
What does Exodus 6:21 mean?
This simple genealogical line introduces us to Korah, who becomes a significant figure later in Numbers when he leads a rebellion against Moses' leadership. At this point in Exodus, we're simply learning family lineages of the Levites, the tribe set apart for priestly duties. Knowing Korah's ancestry helps us understand that he came from a respected priestly family, which makes his later challenge to Moses' authority all the more dramatic, since he had every reason to trust the established order. These genealogies might seem like dry lists, but they ground the big stories of Scripture in real families and real people with stakes and histories.
