Exodus 40:11
βYou shall anoint the basin and its base, and sanctify it.β
What does Exodus 40:11 mean?
As the Israelites prepared their sacred tent (the tabernacle) for worship, every object needed to be set apart for God's use through anointing with special oil. The basin was a practical item, used for washing, but this instruction shows that God cares about consecrating even the everyday tools of worship, not just the grand or impressive ones. By anointing it, the people were saying: this ordinary basin now belongs to God and serves his purposes. It's a good reminder that whatever we dedicate to God, whether something visible and important or something humble and behind-the-scenes, becomes sacred when offered with genuine intention.
