Exodus 4:1
“Moses answered, “But, behold, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for they will say, ‘Yahweh has not appeared to you.’””
What does Exodus 4:1 mean?
Moses has just been called by God to lead the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, but his first instinct is doubt. He's worried that when he shows up with this incredible message, the people won't trust him or take him seriously. They'll think he's making it all up, that God never actually spoke to him. It's a very human response to an overwhelming task, and it reveals Moses' awareness that extraordinary claims need extraordinary proof. What's touching here is that God doesn't scold him for his fear, but instead addresses it by giving him signs and wonders to perform so people will believe. Sometimes our doubts and questions are the beginning of a deeper faith, not a failure of it.
