Exodus 38:7
“He put the poles into the rings on the sides of the altar, with which to carry it. He made it hollow with planks.”
What does Exodus 38:7 mean?
The altar for burnt offerings needed to be portable so the Israelites could carry it during their wilderness journeys. The poles slipped through rings attached to the altar's sides, making it possible for the priests to transport this sacred piece of furniture from place to place. The hollow construction (built from wooden planks rather than solid material) made the altar lighter and more practical for travel, while still maintaining its proper dimensions and function for the sacrifices that were central to Israel's worship.
