Exodus 35:22
“They came, both men and women, as many as were willing-hearted, and brought brooches, earrings, signet rings, and armlets, all jewels of gold; even every man who offered an offering of gold to Yahweh.”
What does Exodus 35:22 mean?
The Israelites are bringing their own treasures to help build the tabernacle, God's dwelling place among them. What makes this beautiful is that it's completely voluntary—these aren't taxes or obligations, but gifts from people who genuinely wanted to contribute to something sacred. Notice that both men and women are giving their personal jewelry. In that culture, such items represented real wealth and security, so offering them meant real sacrifice. The repeated phrase "willing-hearted" shows that God valued the generous spirit behind the gift far more than the material itself. This same attitude matters today whenever we give our time, money, or resources to something we believe in: the willingness and heart behind it matter most to God.
