What does Exodus 30:28 mean?
This verse is part of God's detailed instructions to Moses about consecrating the tabernacle's furnishings with holy oil. The altar of burnt offering was where the Israelites brought their sacrifices, and the basin (or laver) was where priests washed themselves before approaching God, so both represented essential parts of approaching Him. By anointing these items along with everything else in the sacred space, God was marking them as set apart, making clear that encountering Him required preparation and respect.
