What does Exodus 3:1 mean?
Moses is tending sheep in the desert, doing ordinary work as a shepherd for his father-in-law, when he finds himself at Mount Horeb. This moment of routine labor becomes the threshold where Moses encounters God in a transformative way. The quiet, unglamorous job of watching over animals is exactly where God chooses to meet him, reminding us that we don't need to be in special places or doing impressive things for God to speak to us. Sometimes the most sacred encounters happen in the midst of our everyday responsibilities, when we're simply faithful in small things.
