Exodus 29:22

Also you shall take some of the ram’s fat, the fat tail, the fat that covers the innards, the cover of the liver, the two kidneys, the fat that is on them, and the right thigh (for it is a ram of consecration),

What does Exodus 29:22 mean?

This instruction is part of the detailed ritual for setting apart Aaron and his sons as priests. God is telling Moses exactly which parts of a sacrificial ram to take—the richest, most vital portions—to be burned as an offering and to consecrate the priests for their holy work. The specificity here matters: God wanted the *best* parts given back to him, not scraps. This wasn't about waste but about showing that priestly service deserved a complete, generous dedication. When we read about the "right thigh," that was considered the choicest cut, reserved for those being honored. By commanding this particular offering, God was essentially saying that those who would lead his people spiritually needed to be set apart thoroughly and reverently, with nothing held back. For us today, while we no longer perform these sacrifices, the principle still speaks: serving God and others well calls for our genuine effort and best resources, not just what's convenient or left over.
