Exodus 29:12
“You shall take of the blood of the bull, and put it on the horns of the altar with your finger; and you shall pour out all the blood at the base of the altar.”
What does Exodus 29:12 mean?
In the ancient tabernacle worship system, blood held deep symbolic weight as the sign of life given for atonement. This instruction directed Moses to apply some of the sacrificial bull's blood to the altar's horns (its four protruding corners) and drain the rest at its base, creating a complete act of consecration. The ritual demonstrated that nothing was held back in dedicating the altar to God's service, and the blood touching every part spoke to God's presence covering the whole space. For people in that time, this wasn't seen as gruesome but as a solemn, necessary expression of how serious sin is and how completely God forgives when we approach Him with the right heart.
