Exodus 28:27
“You shall make two rings of gold, and shall put them on the two shoulder straps of the ephod underneath, in its forepart, close by its coupling, above the skillfully woven band of the ephod.”
What does Exodus 28:27 mean?
The ephod was a special vest worn by Israel's high priest, and these gold rings had a practical purpose: they held the breastplate (which contained the names of the twelve tribes) securely in place against the priest's chest. By attaching rings to the shoulder straps and connecting them with a cord, the breastplate wouldn't shift or fall away during the priest's work in the tabernacle. This passage reflects how much care went into the priest's garments—every detail mattered because he represented the whole community before God. For us today, it's a gentle reminder that the God we worship cares about both the big spiritual truths and the details that keep things working as they should. Nothing is too small for His attention.
