What does Exodus 27:8 mean?

This verse describes how the Israelites were to build the altar for the tabernacle. God had shown Moses the design on Mount Sinai, and now the people were instructed to construct it from wooden planks that were hollow inside, rather than solid wood. This hollow construction made the altar lighter and more portable as the Israelites traveled through the wilderness, while still maintaining its structural integrity and sacred purpose. The key point here is obedience to God's specific instructions: they weren't to improvise or build it however seemed right to them, but to follow the exact pattern they had been shown.
