Exodus 26:9
“You shall couple five curtains by themselves, and six curtains by themselves, and shall double over the sixth curtain in the forefront of the tent.”
What does Exodus 26:9 mean?
The tabernacle's outer covering required careful construction: five curtains sewn together formed one set, while six curtains formed another, with that sixth curtain folded forward to create a protective double layer at the entrance. This practical design meant the tent would be fully enclosed and weatherproofed, with extra durability exactly where foot traffic and exposure would be greatest. While this may seem like pure construction detail, it reflects something worth noticing about God's instructions to Moses. Even in the specifications for a worship space, there's intentionality about protection and longevity. The doubled-over curtain at the front isn't wasted material or excessive. It's wisdom built into the structure itself, suggesting that the God who called people to meet with him also cared about the details of shelter, safety, and making things last.
