Exodus 25:8
“Let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.”
What does Exodus 25:8 mean?
God is asking the Israelites to build him a place—the tabernacle—where he can be present with them as they wander through the wilderness. This wasn't about giving God a home he needed, but about creating a sacred space where the community could encounter him, bring their prayers and offerings, and experience his nearness in a tangible way. What's beautiful here is the reversal of what you might expect: instead of people having to climb a mountain or travel far to find God, he's saying he wants to live among them, right there in their camp. It's an early picture of God's desire for closeness with his people, a theme that reaches its fullest expression later when Jesus himself comes to dwell among us.
