What does Exodus 24:5 mean?
At Mount Sinai, after God spoke the Ten Commandments and the people agreed to follow His covenant, Moses had young men from Israel perform sacrifices to mark this sacred agreement. The burnt offerings were completely consumed by fire as a sign of total devotion, while the peace offerings (also called fellowship offerings) were shared meals where the people ate part of what was offered, symbolizing their restored relationship with God and each other. These sacrifices weren't about earning God's favor, but about expressing commitment and celebrating the covenant bond that had just been made.
