Exodus 23:22

But if you indeed listen to his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries.

What does Exodus 23:22 mean?

God is making a covenant promise here: if the Israelites pay attention to His guidance and follow His instructions, He will actively protect them by opposing whoever opposes them. It's a reassurance wrapped in relational language, showing that God positions Himself as their defender and ally. The beautiful part beneath the surface is about belonging. When you align yourself with God's ways, you're not left vulnerable or alone—you're brought into a relationship where God takes your struggles seriously. He doesn't stand neutral; He stands with you. This doesn't mean life becomes conflict-free, but it speaks to the deep comfort of knowing your wellbeing matters to the One who holds everything.
