Exodus 20:9
“You shall labor six days, and do all your work,”
What does Exodus 20:9 mean?
God isn't saying you must work yourself to exhaustion or that rest is optional. Rather, he's establishing a rhythm for life that includes dedicated time for work alongside something equally important: the Sabbath rest that follows in the next verse. This reflects how we're made to both produce and restore, to both give effort and receive renewal. The principle acknowledges that work itself is good and purposeful, not something to avoid or feel guilty about, even as we're reminded that our worth doesn't depend on constant productivity.
