What does Exodus 2:4 mean?
Miriam, the older sister of the baby Moses, had just watched her mother place him in a basket among the reeds of the Nile River—an act of desperate love to protect him from Pharaoh's order to kill all Hebrew baby boys. Rather than abandon the situation completely, Miriam positioned herself nearby, watching from a distance to see what would happen to her baby brother. Her watchfulness wasn't passive worry; it was active care, ready to help if an opportunity came. That opportunity did come when Pharaoh's daughter discovered the basket and took pity on the child, and Miriam's presence allowed her to step forward and suggest her mother as a nurse. Sometimes our role in others' stories is to stay alert, remain faithful in small ways, and be ready when we're called to act.
