“Yahweh said to Moses, “Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments,”
What does Exodus 19:10 mean?
God is asking Moses to prepare the people for something momentous, letting them know that they need to get ready, both practically and spiritually. The washing of garments was a physical act that symbolized purification and readiness, a way of saying "make yourselves clean and prepared." This happened just before God would give the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai, so the message was: something sacred and important is coming, and it matters how you approach it. Even today, this reminds us that when we're about to meet God in prayer or worship, there's value in taking time to prepare ourselves, to clear away distractions, and to approach with reverence and intention.
