“Moses told his father-in-law all that Yahweh had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardships that had come on them on the way, and how Yahweh delivered them.”
What does Exodus 18:8 mean?
Moses is sharing his whole story with Jethro, his father-in-law, and it's a beautiful moment of testimony. He's recounting both the miraculous victories (God's judgment on Pharaoh and Egypt) and the real struggles of the journey itself, not glossing over the hard parts. What makes this significant is that Moses isn't just celebrating the wins; he's acknowledging that God was present through the difficulties too, and ultimately brought deliverance through it all. There's something deeply human here. When we've been through something difficult and come out the other side, we naturally want to tell someone we trust the whole arc of it, the defeats and disappointments alongside the breakthroughs.
