What does Exodus 18:24 mean?
Moses had been overwhelmed, trying to judge every single dispute among the Israelites himself, which was exhausting him and leaving the people waiting in long lines for justice. His father-in-law Jethro watched this and gently suggested a better way: delegate the work by appointing trustworthy people to handle smaller cases, bringing only the most important matters to Moses. What's striking here is that Moses, despite his leadership role and direct connection to God, was humble enough to receive this practical wisdom from someone outside the community. He didn't cling to doing everything himself or defend his exhausting approach. Instead, he recognized good counsel when he heard it and acted on it immediately. This reminds us that wisdom can come from unexpected places, and that being a good leader sometimes means having the wisdom to listen and the humility to change course.
