What does Exodus 17:15 mean?
After Israel's victory over the Amalekites, Moses wanted to mark what God had done for them. He built an altar and gave it a name that means "The Lord is our Banner"—using the image of a flag or standard that armies would rally around. It was his way of saying that God himself was their sign of victory, the one they could look to and trust. This small act of remembrance was powerful. By naming the altar, Moses helped the people remember not just that they won a battle, but that God was their true leader and protection.
