Exodus 16:7
“and in the morning, then you shall see Yahweh’s glory; because he hears your murmurings against Yahweh. Who are we, that you murmur against us?””
What does Exodus 16:7 mean?
The Israelites have been wandering in the desert after their escape from Egypt, and they're hungry and afraid. Moses is telling them that God has heard their complaints and will provide for them, and when morning comes, they'll witness His care firsthand. There's a gentle correction in Moses' words, too, as he reminds them that their complaints are really directed at God, not at him and Aaron, even though they're the ones standing in front of them. This moment captures something deeply human: when we're scared and our basic needs aren't met, we lash out at whoever is nearest, even when they're not really the problem. Moses is inviting them to see that God is listening, that He's aware of their suffering, and that what they're about to witness will be an undeniable sign of His presence and provision. By morning, they would find manna covering the ground, God's answer to their desperation.
