“Behold, because Yahweh has given you the Sabbath, therefore he gives you on the sixth day the bread of two days. Everyone stay in his place. Let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.””
What does Exodus 16:29 mean?
When the Israelites were wandering in the desert, God provided miraculous food called manna each day, but it spoiled if kept overnight. To honor the Sabbath (the seventh day of rest), God gave a double portion on the sixth day so people wouldn't need to gather food on the holy day. The instruction to "stay in your place" wasn't meant to be harsh, but rather to help people truly rest and focus on God instead of their usual daily activities.
