What does Exodus 16:17 mean?
After God provided manna from heaven, each person in the Israelite camp was told to gather only what they needed for one day. What's striking about this verse is what happened next: despite the clear instruction, people naturally gathered different amounts. Some collected more than they were supposed to, while others gathered less, perhaps because they were tired, skeptical, or simply less able-bodied. This small detail captures something very human about following instructions, especially when we're anxious or don't fully trust the source. Yet the story goes on to show that God's provision worked perfectly anyway—the extra manna spoiled overnight, and the shortage was made up the next day.
