Exodus 16:12
““I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, ‘At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread: and you shall know that I am Yahweh your God.’””
What does Exodus 16:12 mean?
After forty days wandering in the desert with empty stomachs, the Israelites had started complaining to Moses about their hunger, and God heard every word of it. Rather than being angry at their doubt, God promised to send them quail in the evening and a mysterious bread (later called manna) each morning, enough to sustain them for their entire journey. This wasn't just about feeding their bodies, though that was real and necessary, but about teaching them something deeper: that God pays attention to their struggles and keeps promises even when circumstances seem impossible. God wanted them to know through this daily provision that he was truly present with them, meeting their needs in the wilderness.
