What does Exodus 15:11 mean?
This is Moses singing after God parted the Red Sea and saved Israel from Pharaoh's army. He's overwhelmed with awe, asking rhetorically: who else could possibly compare to what God just did? The question itself is the answer, because in Moses' world, people acknowledged many gods, but none of them had the power or character of the God who just performed the impossible. When Moses calls God "glorious in holiness," he means set apart, utterly pure, completely other than anything earthly. "Fearful in praises" captures the way people respond to God with reverent wonder, not because they're terrified of punishment, but because they've glimpsed something so far beyond themselves it reshapes how they see everything. The whole song celebrates that this God actually acts in history, doing miracles that save people who had nowhere else to turn.
