Exodus 14:27

Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it. Yahweh overthrew the Egyptians in the middle of the sea.

What does Exodus 14:27 mean?

When the Israelites reached safety on the other side of the Red Sea, Moses raised his hand and the waters crashed back down, trapping the Egyptian army that had pursued them. This moment completes an extraordinary act of deliverance: the same sea that became a passageway for the enslaved people became a barrier of protection, destroying those who threatened them. For the Israelites witnessing this, it would have settled deep into their hearts that their God was both powerful enough to save them and faithful enough to follow through completely.
