Exodus 14:20
“It came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, yet gave it light by night: and one didn’t come near the other all night.”
What does Exodus 14:20 mean?
When the Israelites were trapped between the Red Sea and Pharaoh's advancing army, God placed a pillar of cloud and fire between the two groups. This cloud was both a barrier and a protection, blocking the Egyptian soldiers from reaching the Israelites while simultaneously providing light for God's people to find their way. The darkness that concealed one side illuminated the other, which speaks to how God often works in our lives, creating separation from harm even when circumstances feel overwhelming. In the midst of fear and danger, God was providing both cover and guidance, reminding us that His protection sometimes means putting distance between us and what threatens us.
