Exodus 13:5
“It shall be, when Yahweh shall bring you into the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.”
What does Exodus 13:5 mean?
God is reminding the newly freed Israelites that when they arrive in the promised land, they need to remember and celebrate what he's done for them, particularly through the Passover observance during this same month. The specific mention of those five nations isn't arbitrary, it's describing the actual peoples living in Canaan at that time, grounding this promise in real geography and history. The phrase "land flowing with milk and honey" is a way of saying the land will be rich and abundant, not a barren wilderness.
