Exodus 12:13
“The blood shall be to you for a token on the houses where you are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and there shall no plague be on you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt.”
What does Exodus 12:13 mean?
When God's people marked their doorframes with lamb's blood during the final plague in Egypt, they were doing something that meant everything: they were claiming God's protection and identifying themselves as His own. The blood wasn't magical, but rather a sign of faith and obedience, a visible way of saying "we believe God will save us." God promises to "pass over" the homes marked with blood, meaning His judgment against Egypt's gods and rulers would skip those households entirely. This was the difference between life and death for the firstborn in every home that night.
