Exodus 1:21
“Because the midwives feared God, he gave them families.”
What does Exodus 1:21 mean?
The midwives in Egypt had been ordered by Pharaoh to kill all Hebrew baby boys at birth, but they refused, choosing obedience to God over obedience to a cruel king. This verse tells us that God noticed their courage and their faith, and he blessed them by giving them families of their own, even though they had risked everything by disobeying the ruler's command. The promise here speaks to something deep: when we do what's right even when it costs us, God sees it and cares for us. It doesn't always mean life gets easier or that we get exactly what we want, but it means we're not forgotten or abandoned. The midwives' faithfulness mattered, and so does ours, no matter how small our act of obedience might seem.
