“Mordecai went out of the presence of the king in royal clothing of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a robe of fine linen and purple; and the city of Susa shouted and was glad.”
What does Esther 8:15 mean?
When the king reversed his earlier decree of destruction against the Jewish people, Mordecai emerged as the one who had saved them, and the king honored him with symbols of power and authority. The specific colors and materials mentioned, blue and white and purple and gold, were the finest and most expensive available in the Persian empire, reserved for the highest officials. What's beautiful here is that Mordecai's elevation wasn't just a personal victory, but it meant deliverance for his entire community, so the whole city celebrated with him.
