What does Esther 8:13 mean?
After years of living under a death sentence, the Jewish people finally received official permission to defend themselves. Esther, now the queen, had exposed Haman's plot to destroy her people, and the king issued a new decree allowing Jews throughout the empire to fight back against anyone who attacked them on the appointed day. This wasn't a call to unprovoked violence, but rather legal protection to resist the violence that had been authorized against them. For a community that had been helpless and hunted, knowing they had the king's backing to protect their own lives and families meant the difference between despair and hope, between certain destruction and a fighting chance at survival.
