“Then the king asked her, “What would you like, queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given you even to the half of the kingdom.””
What does Esther 5:3 mean?
King Ahasuerus is so charmed by Esther's presence at a private banquet she's arranged that he immediately offers her whatever she wants, up to half his kingdom. This was a common hyperbolic promise in ancient royal courts, a way of saying "ask for almost anything and it's yours." What makes this moment significant is that Esther has positioned herself to be heard, and the king is genuinely receptive to her. She doesn't immediately reveal her real request though, which shows her wisdom and restraint. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is create the right moment and the right relationship before we ask for what we truly need.
