What does Esther 3:9 mean?
Haman has just convinced King Ahasuerus that the Jewish people are dangerous and should be eliminated. Here, he sweetens the deal by offering an enormous bribe, ten thousand talents of silver (roughly the annual tax revenue of the entire Persian empire), to cover the costs of this genocide. His confidence reveals how thoroughly he's manipulated the king, and his willingness to bankroll the plot himself shows how personal his hatred has become. What looks like a generous offer to the king is actually Haman's attempt to make the destruction of the Jewish people seem like a practical, painless decision for the crown.
