What does Esther 3:1 mean?

King Ahasuerus elevates Haman to the highest position in his court, giving him authority over all the other officials. This promotion sets the stage for what becomes a turning point in the story, because Haman's newfound power will soon lead him to make decisions that endanger an entire people. The verse shows how quickly circumstances can change in a kingdom, and how one person's rise to influence can affect many others, for better or worse. It's a reminder that power without wisdom or restraint can become dangerous, especially when given to someone driven by pride.
