“In those days, while Mordecai was sitting in the king’s gate, two of the king’s eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, who were doorkeepers, were angry, and sought to lay hands on the King Ahasuerus.”
What does Esther 2:21 mean?
While Mordecai was going about his daily duties at the palace gates, he overheard two of the king's officials plotting to harm King Ahasuerus. This small moment of being in the right place at the right time sets off a chain of events that will eventually save the Jewish people from destruction. What might have seemed like routine palace work—sitting by the gates, paying attention to conversations—turns out to matter deeply, even though Mordecai couldn't have known it then.
