Esther 2:10
βEsther had not made known her people nor her relatives, because Mordecai had instructed her that she should not make it known.β
What does Esther 2:10 mean?
Esther kept her Jewish identity hidden, following her cousin Mordecai's careful guidance to stay silent about who she was. This wasn't deception for personal gain, but a protective measure in a foreign court where her background might have made her vulnerable or cost her the king's favor. Mordecai understood the political reality of their time and place, and his wisdom to help her blend in became crucial to her safety and, eventually, to the survival of her entire people. Sometimes the most loving thing someone can do for us is help us navigate a dangerous situation with practical wisdom rather than bold declarations.
