What does Esther 1:9 mean?

While King Ahasuerus threw an enormous banquet for his court and officials, Queen Vashti held her own separate feast for the women of the palace. This wasn't unusual for the time, as men and women typically celebrated in different spaces. Both gatherings reflect the wealth and power on display during those seven days of celebration, and both the king and queen were participating in the lavish entertainment that defined the Persian court. This moment sets the stage for what comes next in the story, showing us a queen who was present and active in court life, though in her own sphere.
