What does Esther 1:2 mean?
King Ahasuerus ruled over a vast Persian empire, and this verse sets the scene in his capital city of Shushan (also called Susa), where he held his royal court. The simple mention of him sitting on his throne might seem like just historical detail, but it's establishing that we're about to witness the power and authority of an earthly king, which becomes significant once we see how God works through ordinary people and unexpected circumstances in this story.
