What does Esther 1:11 mean?
King Ahasuerus had thrown an extravagant banquet and, after drinking heavily, decided to display his wife Queen Vashti to his guests by parading her in her royal crown. He wanted to show off her beauty to prove his own power and status, treating her more like a possession to be admired than as a person with her own dignity. This moment sets everything in motion: Vashti's refusal to appear (which comes in the next verse) will lead to her removal as queen and eventually to Esther taking her place. It's a window into how women were viewed in the Persian court, where even a queen could be commanded to perform for the king's ego, and it reminds us that real strength sometimes means saying no, even when the cost is high.
