Ecclesiastes 6:7
“All the labor of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.”
What does Ecclesiastes 6:7 mean?
We work hard to meet our basic needs, food especially, yet no matter how much we accumulate or consume, something inside us still feels empty. The writer of Ecclesiastes is pointing out that physical survival alone, even when we succeed at it, doesn't satisfy the deeper hunger we carry. He's not saying work is pointless, but rather that chasing only material security and comfort misses something essential about what it means to live well. If we find ourselves endlessly striving for the next thing, assuming it will finally make us feel complete, this verse gently suggests we might be looking in the wrong direction.
