What does Ecclesiastes 10:2 mean?
In ancient times, "right" symbolized favor, skill, and what's correct, while "left" meant misfortune or error. This verse uses that cultural language to say that a wise person's values and instincts guide them well, like having their best judgment readily available. A fool, by contrast, is oriented the wrong way, their heart turned toward poor choices and flawed thinking. The point isn't about literal directions but about our inner compass. It's asking where your heart naturally goes when you face a choice: toward wisdom and care, or toward shortcuts and foolishness? A wise heart naturally inclines toward what's good and true, while a foolish heart keeps reaching for what's destructive, even when the harm is obvious.
