What does Ecclesiastes 10:14 mean?
The writer of Ecclesiastes is pointing out something we've probably all noticed: people who don't think things through tend to talk a lot, filling the air with words instead of wisdom. More deeply, he's reminding us of something humbling: none of us actually know what's coming next, and we certainly can't predict what will happen after we're gone. That uncertainty is part of being human. There's comfort in this if you let it settle. It gives you permission to stop pretending you have everything figured out, to quit the exhausting performance of false confidence. It also suggests that some silence, some listening, some careful thought before speaking might serve us better than constant chatter. When we accept that the future isn't ours to control or predict, we might find ourselves speaking less defensively and living more openly.
