What does Ecclesiastes 10:12 mean?
Words have power, and this passage reminds us that what comes out of our mouths reveals who we are. A wise person speaks with grace, kindness, and thoughtfulness, which draws people in and builds them up. A fool, by contrast, gets caught in his own trap, saying foolish or harmful things that ultimately destroy his own reputation and relationships. This is the kind of truth you recognize when you see it happen. We've all watched someone talk themselves into a corner, or witnessed how careful, considerate speech opens doors while careless words slam them shut. The verse isn't saying that wise people are perfect speakers, but that they think before they speak and consider how their words will land. That restraint and care actually protects us, while the opposite tendency leaves us vulnerable to our own damage.
