Ecclesiastes 1:17

β€œI applied my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also was a chasing after wind.”

What does Ecclesiastes 1:17 mean?

The writer of Ecclesiastes is describing a deeply honest moment: he threw himself into understanding everything, both the profound and the absurd, hoping to find real meaning. But after all that searching, he realized that chasing after knowledge just for its own sake leaves you empty, like trying to catch the wind in your hands. It's a reminder that information and experiences alone won't satisfy the deepest questions in our hearts. Sometimes we have to stop running in circles and ask what we're really looking for underneath all that striving.
