Deuteronomy 9:1
“Hear, Israel! You are to pass over the Jordan today, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky,”
What does Deuteronomy 9:1 mean?
Moses is reminding the Israelites that they're about to face something that looks impossible on paper: crossing into land inhabited by stronger, better-armed people living in heavily fortified cities. He's not glossing over the difficulty or pretending the challenge isn't real. What matters is that he's calling them to listen and move forward anyway, because what makes this possible isn't their own strength or military superiority. This sets up his next words, where he'll remind them that God, not their own righteousness or power, is what will actually accomplish this. When we face situations that feel overwhelming, this verse invites us to acknowledge how real and daunting they are, while also considering whether we're trusting in our own resources or in something greater.
